BIRT Reporting
Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) form an object oriented Open Source Framework, which can be tailored to the user's needs.
What does this mean for you and your applications?
Generally, a report comprises three different areas: A design template forms the basis. After creating it once it can be reused for every report in the company, but it is not a rigid form every document has to use. The report user can always make individual changes - for a special report or as a new template for further documents of this kind. Data forms the second part of the report. BIRT can access databases from several different database vendors, and can handle a variety of data formats. These can all be integrated into a sinlge report. The design structure and the data together form the report document. This can be output as PDF, Excel, XML or HTML documents.
Since reporting structures can be made available throughout an organisation, it also enables a collaborative approach to reporting, where the production of a specific report may be a collaboration of different departments each contributing their data.
BIRT can therefore be deployed flexibly so that it adjusts to the respective needs of different departments in a company. The BIRT software is based on Java and Eclipse, which are well established technologies. However, BIRT has a fairly complex framework, and to create truly professional reports is beyond most companies' capabilities. Sielhorst iT Consulting helps companies to integrate BIRT into their operating procedures, in such a way that workload is reduced, increased. Our training courses enable you to design and produce professional looking reports with your trained staff. We have many years of experience in both the deployment and integration of BIRT, and in producing professional quality reports, and would be happy to provide you with more details.
